In 2010, the federal government through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) launched its first Technology Access Centre (TAC) competition, open to colleges across the country. The program supports the establishment of innovation support centres in different industrial sectors to enhance the ability of companies, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to become more productive and innovative by providing ready access to expertise, technology and equipment.  Please read the discussion paper on the TAC program.

SIRT was selected as a TAC in 2012. NSERC TAC funding supports core operations for five years and is renewable.

SIRT provides companies within the screen industries with access to applied research and addresses their innovation needs. Our TAC capabilities can include consultation on specific challenges, specialized technical assistance, applied research, development projects for companies and specialized training.

SIRT is the first and only Digital Media TAC in Ontario.

The TAC designation has made it possible for us to offer a broader, evolved range of services and specialized training. Together with our partners, we are putting Ontario and its screen-based industry on the international map.

SIRT is part of the Tech-Access Canada network (www.tech-access.ca). The member-driven Tech-Access Canada is comprised of Technology Access Centres that serve the research and innovation needs of a specific regional economic cluster representing nine technology sectors.
